Reaching a Billion Users
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Role: Senior Product Manager
Domain: Identity & Access Management (IAM) & Global Streaming Authentication
Key Outcomes: >290% user sign-up lift in week one; 35% reduction in customer support ticket volume; frictionless federated identity for a global streaming platform.
The Challenge
Frontro built authentication systems for a major streaming platform targeting over one billion global viewers. The platform had millions of visitors, but most users watched content without creating an account.
The Conversion Gap
The original platform used a traditional username and password login flow. Analytics revealed a massive gap: the site received approximately 15 million visitors, but only a couple hundred thousand users had signed up.
As Senior Product Manager, I investigated ways to close this gap. We found that typing usernames and passwords on mobile devices created too much friction. This discovery led us directly to a streamlined Single Sign-On (SSO) solution.
Key Initiatives
- One-Tap SSO Integration: Implemented frictionless Google and Apple federated identity sign-in across web, mobile, and connected TV devices.
- Eliminating Password Friction: Removed password entry requirements so viewers could sign up and sign in using their trusted existing accounts.
- Cross-Device Support: Unified login states across web portals and native TV streaming applications.
Key Results
- +290% Sign-Up Lift: Removing login friction drove a near triple-digit increase in new user registrations during week one.
- -35% Support Tickets: Many viewers were older users who frequently lost passwords and struggled to log in. Replacing password management with one-tap SSO eliminated lost credential friction and cut support tickets by over a third.
- Built for One Billion Users: Established a reliable, high-speed authentication infrastructure capable of supporting global streaming audiences.
